Chanukah celebrates the miraculous victory of the Maccabees over the mighty Greek empire more than 2,000 years ago, and the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. When the Jews returned to the Temple, they found only one small jar of pure oil—just enough to burn for a single day. Yet it miraculously lasted for eight full days, giving them time to prepare new oil.

We mark this joyful holiday by lighting the menorah each night, adding one candle at a time to increase the light in the world. Families gather to recite the blessings and sing songs, children play dreidel, and we enjoy delicious oil-rich foods like latkes and sufganiyot (jelly doughnuts). It is a time to celebrate faith, dedication, and the enduring power of light over darkness.
